‘Allo ‘Allo! – The Complete Series Five, Part 2 Review

Ahhh… the joys of revisiting Cafe Rene in full DVD quality!!! The best sitcom ever just keeps getting better with every series’ release. I wish I could live in Cafe Rene! I WISH I WAS RENE! (Wait, that’s going too far — Rene will surely end up getting shot by his wife, or killed “in the act” by one of his waitresses, or knifed by Madame LaMountain, or bombed by Denise LaRoque, or done in — quickly & with style — by Monsieur Alphonse the undertaker). GREAT FUN and more than worth its weight in exploding Christmas puddings.

‘Allo ‘Allo! – The Complete Series Five, Part 2 Overview

Rene Artois is a man on the run. Acting as a pawn for the French Resistance, he spends his days running from the Gestapo, the Generals, and naturally, from all of the women who desperately yearn for his affection. But unfortunately for Rene, he is also running out of time! If he wants to make it out of France alive, he must fake the death of the undertaker, fit a million Francs down Lieutenant Gruber’s trousers, and diffuse a bomb disguised as a Christmas pudding. But will Rene’s own antics catch up with him when he least expects it? Or is he quick enough to elude his friends and enemies before its too late? Find out in this hilarious BBC comedy classic!

Allo Allo the Best – xlegend – New Jersey
I have purchased the complete series of Allo Allo. This is the best comedy series that is out there. I have watched Allo Allo four times and will watch again with guaranteed laughs. The characters themselves are hilarious especially Herr Flick of the gestapo. I strongly recommend this very funny spoof of a cafe owner living in France and his dealings with an outrageously funny German Colonel and his incompetent aides. You can’t go wrong.

Really is funny, just like rest of the series. I do recommend these dvds.

‘Allo ‘Allo! – The Complete Series Five, Part 2 Specifications

The lunacy of the fifth season of ‘Allo, ‘Allo! continues on this two-disc set (13 episodes plus cast bios and trailers), as beleaguered French café owner René Artois (the indefatigable British comedic actor Gordon Kaye) tries to keep his life in balance. No easy trick in occupied France–his town is crawling with unhinged Nazi officers; deadly serious but not necessarily brilliant French Resistance leaders; his semi-clueless wife, Edith (Carmen Silvera); and every waitress in his café who seems to have the hots for him. Zut! The series hits its stride during season 5, the mid-point of its long, successful BBC run. The gags rely on very silly accents, lots of cross-dressing (did you know female German officers were “allowed” to grow mustaches of “tasteful length”?), and over-the-top plots to foil the Nazis. One particularly memorable episode in this series involves disguising explosives in 500 Christmas puddings that René is asked to house at his café. How, he pleads, is he to explain the presence of 500 Christmas puddings at his tiny bistro? Resistance leader Michelle, exasperated: “Just say you have cornered ze market!” –A.T. Hurley
